Making a Difference

Founded in 1984 in Hood Green, Barnsley by Suzanne Darley-Grand, Rainbow Studios started with a handful of students. It didn't take long for word to spread and in no time grew into the performing arts academy it is today...

Founder and principle Suzanne Darley-Grand has had an incredibly sucessful career. Her early years were spent as a performer, she then swiftly moved on from performance and stepped into her true passion - choreography. After choreographing numerous productions, in the year 1995 she was hired to choreograph a film and stepped onto the set of 'The Full Monty.' The mega hit motion picture 'The Full Monty,' won her the coveted 'American Choreography Award' which was presented to her at a ceremony in Los Angeles in 1996. Today Suzanne's choreography can be seen on some of the most luxurious cruise liners in the world, in 5 star hotels and in casinos even as far away as Australia!

Previous students have had huge sucess in the professional dance and performance world. Wherever you are from Spain to Australia, the USA to Hong Kong, you probably won't be too far away from a Rainbow Studios graduate! Many even work for Suzanne Darley-Grand on some of her exclusive contracts

Tap is rhythm - rhythm is tap. It's origins are many and varied. Americans claim its origin dates from the African Jazz age. The Irish stake their claim to the Jigs and Step Dancing. The English relate back to northern Clog Dancers but whichever one chooses to believe, Tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. Evergreen shows, 42nd Street and Crazy For You, and the more recent Stomp and Tap Dogs highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping. Tap is perfect for all ages... parents check out our adult tap class for the perfect, gentle way to keep fit while having a great laugh with friends!

Contemporary Modern- Jazz is the most diverse form of Dance, ranging from old musical styles of Jazz through to the modern styles you see on the latest top 40 video clips. Contemporary Modern Jazz is fun. You will learn to develop many different movements reaching to a broad choice of varying rhythms and musical styles. Classes are structured to begin to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of any musical genre, one minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style. You may explore contrast between expansion and relaxation or learn to isolate in a slick stylish mood, whatever the atmosphere of the class, it will be a wonderful opportunity to react and interact with other members of the class and really dance to express your feelings.

Our gymnastics classes have two distinct sections; the first is limbering and stretching, this is an integral part of all dance and will assist greatly with all other subjects (especially Contemporary Modern-Jazz). The second is tricks; from back bends, to hand stands, from free cartwheels to flips, Acrobatics will teach you all sorts of tricks. All in all a challenging experience that will be heaps of fun and give you a competitive edge.
